On the way down to ASDA today a very nice man stopped me for directions to the Great Western Road. I was unable to help him. He did, however, ask if I was Canadian so I guess that made my day. Apparently I have a "canadian twang" that reminded him of Toronto. He then gave me his condolences for the idiot shrub and went on his way.

Not to ruin your enjoyment, but I find that everyone asks if I'm Canadian. Apparently, Canadians get huffy if you ask them the opposite question, so the locals have just taken on the 'Are you from Canada?' to be safe.

Since I'm staying here for the forseeable future, I just say that I'm from Aberdeen. I find the bafflement deliciously amusing. :)

I have actually had people ask me if I'm from Canada -- while being in the US. I think that there's something about the NW's tame accent that sounds Canadian. I always think Canadians sound like they're from Minnesota.
