Visatastic!

I dropped the bomb at work today, Ted is happy for us and even let me know that if we return to Spokane (something not entirely out of the question) that there is a good chance they'd be able to find a place for me.

[livejournal.com profile] badjeebus and [livejournal.com profile] thedragonweaver were up for the fourth and the day after (and I hope had a nice sleep in before getting back on the road on the 6th). I took the day off work Wednesday and we suffered through the humid to walk the park downtown and campus. It was awesome to see them.

My aunt and uncle are in town until Saturday. Next weekend we are taking part in a garage sale, the weekend after that Brian and Jen (of Hedwig) will be visiting from Seattle. The first weekend in Aug. Sara and Rona will be visiting her step-mom. [livejournal.com profile] portlandpiglet and [livejournal.com profile] daedalus_likeme are talking of visiting in Aug. sometime. There is also the totally big "Haggis Means Goodbye" birthday/farwell party and then we leave. Holy crap. We are insane.

Also I am now the owner of a Canon 350D (Rebel EOS) digital SLR. I really am going to try to sell myself over there as a photographer. Hope they are buying.

I'm bettin' on it. And why wouldn't they after my work has graced the cover of such great publications as the Inlander. Or even the Inlander.

(Man, I hope didn't just jinx it, since we are shooting it today....)

Is it me, or do you look more... Jackson Browne-y?

If they don't buy your photog cred, smack 'em upside... with the new Canon 350D!

If by Jackson Browne-y you mean grumpy, long-haired and cracked out I might agree with you. My pictures are shite but they should still let me in so I can't say as I am too worried about it...

Congratulations to all three of you. Jayme is just up from her nap but I'll share the good news shortly.

You commented directly in Flikr that Rona has a "Visa that makes it clear she's not allowed to work." Not true, unless you've been specifically told that. The phrase "no recourse to public funds" means you cannot claim unemployment benefits or low-income housing. You can join NHS, however. And both you and Rona can legally work (except for where child labor laws apply). In fact, you can obtain and change jobs freely, while Sara cannot.

Yeah it's true but as "student dependants" we can only work 20 hours a week so it just doesn't feel like it will count. 20 hours a week is hobby right? Hopefully the ad agencies there will keep me busy, and hopefully freelancing like that might even be above board. I guess I'll find out when I get there...

Interesting. I wasn't aware of the "student dependants" concept. The good news is, almost anything you need for children isn't taxed - food, diapers, small clothing, etc.

If your freelancing work is outside the UK, it would only be taxed if you voluntarily reported it. If it's inside the UK, the same rule applies. Plenty of people work for cash. The really dodgy ones collect the dole while they are at it.

What do you think about the last weekend in August (26th & 27th)? We were originally thinking the first weekend in August, but we were hoping to see all three of you, so that doesn't sound like it will work...

aug. 26-27 we will be making the final move out of the apartment (and into the Shangri La), maybe the weekend before (Aug. 19-20)?

Not so good. As you may remember, that is the weekend closest to our wedding anniversary. I think I'm going to call you and we can work this out over the phone.
