Like a Real Holiday
3 January 2007 16:02Monday morning Sara suggested that maybe while Ces was here we should go and see something vaguely Scottish. Y'know so her trip here was less like visiting us in the Pacific NW or more like a trip to another country (not counting the different money or jet lag of course). So we tallied our Christmas bananas and after a little investigation she determined that we could rent a car for a couple of days (so we could drive the sister back to the airport) for as much as it would cost for day tickets for the four of us to go to Inverness. Renting a car the day after Hogmanay is a bit of a challenge especially if you want to reject the rental companies insurance but with the help of
neepheid we managed to secure a Vauxhall Astra (with seat warmers!) by the end of Monday.
Getting out of town was nice. The drive up is like blend of the west Cascades and the palouse, green rolling fields with the occasional wind farm dotted with beautiful old villages (Keith seemed particular nice on our pass though). We spent the afternoon at Castle Urquhart on Loch Ness and then drove back into town to look for a dinner spot before heading back home. All in all a success despite the Incident of the Untoasted Sandwiches or Rona's brief experimentation with car sickness.

More pictures, of course, in the photostream.
