A Very Good Day
24 November 2009 20:33So i had a fantastic week last week, far above and beyond my normal week in terms of outside good news etc. It was also crazy busy and i haven't had a chance to share about it yet. On Monday i was asked to test for my next rank at aikido, i had already mentally moved on to actually testing in March as i had some attendance/illness issues that i figured just pushed my testing schedule back four months. I was surprised (flattered and excited that yet again I wouldn't end up being leap frogged by students that had not been there as long) and all i had to do was squeeze in eight more hours of training before Saturday. I went home and worked for three more hours before turning in around midnight before my early Tuesday. Tuesday is one of two days i run Rona to school: I get up an hour and a half earlier and get to work early as well. Once in (and properly plugged into the Facebook) I posted moaned that Sara and i were missing the Great Big Sea show. We first starting listening to GBS on our honeymoon when they opened for the Chieftans at the Winery in Woodinville. We loved them: they were optimistic, folky and energetic and had a fantastic cover of End of the World. The last time we saw them was a couple of weeks before we left Scotland, with Rona, at Drumnadrochit on the shores of Loch Ness (in classic Scottish Weather too). We've seen them in Denver, Seattle, Spokane and Vancouver. Suffice to say I feel more than a little possessive of them (to say the least). A few friends chimed with "Are they at the Knitting Factory? I bet I can hook you up." Which was nice and brought a smile to my face. Our friend Lorna piped in shortly later that she had the hookup for us, did we have a sitter for Rona? I quickly confirmed that yes, we did have a sitter and called her to confirm that we did, who do you know at the Bing Crosby Theater. Lorna has a blog where she's been blogging about 29 days of gifting and had decided that today we were to be her lucky recipient. Lorna graciously admitted that she didn't have a connection she just really wanted to make it happen for us. I was over the moon. I spent all day in a space that was two degrees shy of giddy and well over the border into Over the Top. This gave me something to look forward at the end of a day that ended up including securing permanent housing for one of my clients at work, delivering kittens to their new home and three hours of quality training time at the dojo. When I finally arrived home Sara had warm chili and cornbread which I had just enough time for before we hit the door. Sara had had a pretty long hard day and was ready to be there. The concert was brilliant. There was no headliners just my band and a 1300 seat(or so) auditorium. Our seats were second row balcony and as now showed up for a lot of the balcony seats we all shifted down and rocked our hearts out singing along and shouting and hollering. It was, hands down, the single best GBS show we've ever attended. We got home around midnight just overwhelmed with happiness. The rest of the week technically was a bit of a downhill slide (for me anyway) I kept going back to the dojo to try and be ready for my test and ended up sick as dog on Friday and Saturday so i may have missed my chance (although there are always surprise tests that happen from time to timeāor so i've been told) but despite the exhaustion that set in, or even the feverish hallucinations as I blearily watched Eddie Izzard on my couch wrapped in a blanket alternately shivering and sweating, the zen mode of awesomeness that i had been pushed to stayed with me (and continues to). I am by nature a fairly pessimistic person overall so it's been crazy and more than the gift of surprise, or of music, or memories I am grateful for this chance to stay in this place where I can wake up every day and realize how incredibly brilliant everything is and no matter how insane my clients, coworkers or even random passers by are remain positive and happy. Go me! I can lay it all down to such a wonderful moment of generosity: thank you!
