Picked up the Inlaws™ last night and conquered the left handed stick shift. The rental place was out of automatics when I went to pick up the car and I figured, "Sure, I'll try the stick, what's the worse that can happen? I can't leave the parking lot? I smash the crap out of my right hand every time I want to shift?" One I figured out where 1st was I did fine and didn't smack up the right hand at all.

[livejournal.com profile] secret_hippie is taking a break from school work today and we'll be tooling around Aberdeen, seeing the inside sights and maybe some outside ones if the weather improves (churches, Duthie park etc.)

I had the best dream evar last night: [livejournal.com profile] secret_hippie and I had moved back in with my parents but it was OK because they had moved their house to Australia. The next door neighbor had a hot tub but it was so hot there you couldn't tell how hot the water was. The pantry was stuffed with snack food and Ryan and Kelly (friends from university) came over to hang out and play video games and talk about the upcoming tabletop campaign. Then we went to a theater fundraiser organized by [livejournal.com profile] birchfire (it might have been for Spokane Centerstage but that's a little hazy). I sang an original duet with Lori Petty and when we finished up we handed the guitar over to Ronald Reagan. While his karaoke slip clearly indicating he was to play some flamenco guitar, Reagan looked down at the slip, and then back at Nancy. "Fuck it!" he exclaimed and then launched into "I Hope That Somethin' Better Comes Along!" Most Awesome dream indeed.

Also 42/500 this morning!

Yay Reagan! Tell the in-laws I said hello and that I had a really good time and how great it was to see them. Maybe next time I can show them Brooklyn. Love ya, have fun!

I'm jealous I wasn't in your dream.... :(

Reagan on the flamenco guitar... that's basically Estaban right?

You'd better. The only one who can say that they don't want me involved in their dreams is Colin Hay from Men at Work.... I'm pretty sure after I told him about the dream I had about him and the Jedi, he's got some sort of "dream-restraining-order".

Plus Sar thinks you would have been perfect to back up ol' Reagan with the uke.

I so would. Though it would be Zombie Reagan, and I'd have to make sure I could also fend off a zombie attack. And I could!

The weirdest thing about British stick-shifts is the fact that they're really the same as American ones. Just on the left.

First is still top left, second is still bottom left, third is top center, etc.

You just have to do it with the wrong hand.

'Xactly and I haven't had to drive a stick since the Hippie Beetle of Doom™.

Yeah, but driving a stick, like fucking, and riding a bicycle, are things you don't just forget how to do. They're natural human instincts, from when our ancestral monkeys climbed down from the trees and onto their paleolithic, stick-shift, motorcycles.

Doubly 'xactly: I spent two stops trying to get the car to go in 3rd rather than 2nd and since then it's been smooth sailing.

Dude, those bikes were classic!

Remember that the Winter Gardens at Duthie Park are indoors, so it's not a total dead loss to go down there even if it is raining :)

Which is exactly how it worked out. They're kind of too early for the outdoor gardens anyway...
