I had to check to make sure it was a word. I still used it wrong though, whatever. Work progresses. I added one more photoshoot to my schedule for next week. At least I think I have but as I haven't got the info for it yet it's not quite official. Once I get paid I'll almost have made up for not having worked at all for the first two weeks of being back.

Rona is still deep in a princess phase and I am learning to cope. A while ago her favorite color slid to pink and she became all about the princesses (particularly Belle from Beauty and the Beast). For her birthday she got a two pink princess gowns (a la Sleeping Beauty) on the other hand she also currently has an obsession with the Into the Woods soundtrack. I suppose Sondheim evens that out–in my brain anyway. Tomorrow morning I've got to head out to the Valley for a ALS Walk to shoot the Red Hot Mamas in action. And then I think I am calling it quits on work for the day and Rona and I will have a play date with my friend Collin and his little girl Eva. Becuase I have not been feeling particularly fatherly of late, I've felt very run around and thanks rest of my family for covering for me with my parental duties-y.

Three weeks from today we'll be in Denver: yay!

Oh man, I can just imagine her singing "Into the Woods!" over and over with a slightly Scottish accent. How cool.

Better to be a princess now than when she's 15. I knew a 15 year old when went right from her "fairy princess" phase (complete with wings and ball gowns), in to her "rude girl" phase (dressing like my grandpa and going to ska concerts), and then finally into her "angry feminist" phase (shaved head and combat boots, no bra). She had issues, to be sure. Better to work out the role identification in preschool.

Really, being a princess is about being powerful. Yes, it's about conventional ideas of beauty and being objectified to a certain extent, but it's mostly about the desire every girl has to be loved and to be a protagonist in her own life.

Of course, if she just happens to have a toolbelt lying around, she might pick it up on the day she gets tired of trying to climb playground equipment in a ballgown. :)

Also on the plus side was that Rona is pretty stoked to be a pirate for Halloween, at least once we got her to accept we weren't buying her another princess dress.

Oh god I don't know what I'd do if I had one of those girls (wings and ball gowns at 17) I know one and she creeps me out.
