Agreed. And, I'm not sure. But, I do know that
to have gotten to the end without loss would've been dishonest, and, well, Star Trek. Firefly means something. Which is why it hurts. Wash's especially, since it meant the gloves were off, and anyone of the crew could be next. I got to the point where I really thought they were all goners. It hurts. But, it's real. Also? We're all really worried about Karen on this score.
I fully agree. My sister was a little distressed and I had to point out, "Hey Xander lost an eye and Anya died, OK?" I fully expected
Zoe and then River to not make it.
Do we know more specifically what the other parts of the story are?
And more importantly: what the hell were the men with hands of blue!? It is the itchiest unanswered question.
I know who they are. But I *want* to know more about them: what's up with the blue hands yo? What the hell was that cool whizzy whig what killed all those guys and why didn't it kill them?
I have no problems with Joss killing Wash or Book or whomever gets in the way of a fatality. His willingness to let characters die is part of what makes his movies exciting and fresh. One gets tired of watching red shirts bite it. Again I'll point to Xander and Anya. I also pointed out to my friend T--Joss has not kept us from learning more about the characters as the stories do not have to be told chronologically. Joss has said in interviews that Book is a character he wants to explore more. That may me bringing the crew together or simply telling a story about him that takes place before the show or film.
just to add a quick comment I have a bad feeling that the crew of Serenity are heading towards a new rebellion... and a big old saving the universe from itself kind of finale... he did it with Buffy, he did it with Angel and from the first movie it looks like a good setup for Mal and company to be doing it again
